Induction for Research Staff

New Research Staff

A group of research colleagues is sitting in a circle, involved in an intense discussion.

Welcome to the University of Stirling’s Induction WebPages for research staff, managed by the Research and Enterprise Office.

The purpose of these webpages is to provide you with information about the University in general, and information particularly relevant to you as a new member of research staff.

Introduction to the University

Staff new to living in Stirling, particularly staff from overseas, can find useful general information about the University of Stirling from our webpages.

Induction to your work area and job role will be managed at a departmental level, with input from your research manager and colleagues.  You will also be invited to attend an online Induction Event for all new staff organised by the Human Resources Development Centre.

During your first few months at Stirling, you should expect to receive information about:

  • Your role, and how it fits with any wider research group/team;
  • Any requirements which relate to your role and the project, specified by the funder;
  • Relevant procedures and processes e.g. working practices, timescales, monitoring of progress, the frequency of meetings, arrangements for communication, dissemination of research outcomes, publications, etc;
  • Resources available to you e.g. library, computing, facilities and materials, technical assistance, etc and guidance/instructions on how to use/access these facilities;
  • Training and development opportunities available to you including mandatory induction, health and safety and display screen equipment training;
  • Probationary requirements (if any);
  • Arrangements for performance review through the University’s ‘Achieving Success’ scheme if appropriate.

Remember to ask questions and seek clarification if you feel anything is unclear.
